Saving money, one design at a time!

Why is design so expensive?

Good design is worth every penny because it will help you sell more, deliver better experiences, and help you scale. But not everyone can pay big agency fees. The question is, why are those fees so high?

As someone who’s worked in (and even started) some pretty big design companies I can tell you that there are a number of reasons, but here are the three biggest:

Proposals and ContractsScoping projects is difficult and time consuming, and another layer of difficulty gets added when all the details get specified in a contract. It can be weeks of work. It can also be useless because projects often change halfway through, leading to scope-creep. That’s why proposals and contracts are the first things we eliminated.

The Sales ProcessFor every job an agency wins, they might lose 10-20. That means that the winning job has to cover the cost of all of the calls, flights, creative workups and meetings that went into landing the jobs the agency didn’t get. So Humanizer doesn’t bid – if you like that idea and want to try it out you can, risk free.

The Client MeetingsClient meetings are expensive. Usually the first meeting is a discovery or kick-off meeting, and they can be big. For example, let’s say you have a branding project. During the first meeting there would be accounts people and creative people, key marketing personnel, senior managers, and who knows who else. Everone would get together and work up a brief – guidance on how the brand design will proceed. Very time-consuming, but also very necessary. But here’s a secret – you don’t need forty people to put a brief together. You can do it yourself.

Briefs are incredibly important because they let designers, marketing teams, and sales teams understand the purpose of the company, the needs of the market, and the values that drive decisions. Every company should have an idea of their brand, their values and their purpose.

Below we’ve made some free resources available. If you have a new company or a new product fill these out – you might find them helpful.

Questions? Let’s discuss your needs on a call.

Are there order limits?

Nope. You can put as many requests in the cue as you like. Each request is tackled in order, and is normally delivered within 2 days from starting.

How do I pause or cancel?

All of the payments are handled via Stripe, and you can pause or cancel using your Stripe account access. If you don’t have enough work available to justify paying for a coming month you can pause and you will not be billed for the upcoming period.

When you cancel you’ll receive a prorated refund for the current billing period. Billing is monthly.

What counts as a task?

Humanizer provides a workflow document to all clients that shows task breakdowns for larger projects. For example, ‘animated video’ is not a task, but ‘storyboard for a video’ is a task.

Can't I just hire a designer?

Absolutely! But if you hire one full-time then you have to onboard them into your team, and make certain they’re a fit. You also hopefully get them benefits. This can be expensive if they are underutilized, and difficult if they ultimately don’t work out.

Humanizer can deliver interface designs, websites, video packages and 3D renderings. And you can pause or stop whenever you like. Whether you need a variety of deliverables, or just another 1/2 person, Humanizer can fit in.

What won't Humanizer do?

Humanizer can deliver most projects with the exception of 3D modeling (we do texturing, rendering, basic animation, 3D motion graphics), character animation, books, magazines, & packaging.

Do you offer refunds?

If you cancel in the first 7 days you will get a full refund for your payment. After that, refunds are issued based on the pro-rated for the remainder of the monthly billing period.

The work done by Humanizer is done to a very high standard, and comes with both effort and experience. Any design notes or changes you submit will be updated. There are no fixed budgets or revision rounds. Great design that works for you, your business and your audience is the goal.

What tools do you use?

Tools vary by project and client. Design is done mostly in Figma, but also Canva, Affinity Designer, and Photoshop. Video and motion graphics are done in either After Effects, Premiere, or Resolve. 3D rendering is done in Cinema 4D or Blender. Sites can be built using WordPress (Divi), Wix, or Webflow.

Can you build e-commerce sites?

Definitely! Wix is great for e-commerce. Woocommerce is a very flexible option for WordPress. And Webflow has good e-commerce tools.
